My love of baking began as a child, with my very first original recipe being recorded in my mum's recipe book as soon as I could write (the fact that it involved custard, a banana and a cherry is irrelevant!) My mum, armed with the skills of several professional cake decorating courses, made many yummy things with me, and our birthday cakes were always one of the highlights of the year, sometimes with designs chosen weeks in advance!

Of course, life distracted me from the idea that this passion could be a career, but after several years with several different hats on, motherhood pushed me back in the right direction. Determined to stay home and raise my daughter, I discovered that that did not mean stopping work - in fact, it meant that I could finally slow down enough to stick my baking hat back on and concentrate on starting Butterbug Cakes.
I am now a member of the British Sugarcraft Guild and in my dream job. It's been a great journey and I imagine there are only sweet things ahead!
